Tigo boss calls on Asantehene

MS Roshi Motman, the newly appointed General Manager of Millicom Ghana Ltd, operators of mobile telecoms network, Tigo, has paid a courtesy call on the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi.

This maiden official visit after her was used to formally introduce herself and the team to the Asantehene and Asanteman. 

The entourage also congratulated Otumfuo on the occasion of his 64th birthday and his 15th anniversary of ascending the Golden Stool. 

Official communication from Tigo said the visit was significant as it effectively cemented the strong bond between the company and the people of the Ashanti Region, who had been loyal customers of the Tigo brand. 

“The call on the Asantehene, thus, signifies the importance Tigo attaches to its relationship with the Asanteman,” a statement from the company said.

In her interactions with Otumfuo, Ms Motman commended the Asantehene for the giant milestones he had achieved since his enstoolment, especially in the area of education. 

She pledged the mobile operator’s continuous support for Otumfuo’s initiatives to support needy students, while providing incentives to teachers to give off their best.


Tigo also presented a cheque for GH¢50,000 to support the 15th anniversary celebrations, as well as GH¢20,000 each in support of the Asantehene Educational Fund and this year’s annual Otumfuo Teachers Awards. 

Also in the Tigo package for the celebrations, the new general manager announced that the company would organise clean-up exercises in selected suburbs of Kumasi, including Bantama, Akwatia line, Asafo, Stadium, Ash Town and Amakom in preparation towards Akwasidae. 

She also reiterated Tigo’s commitment to not only provide world-class mobile telephony services to the Ghanaian populace but to also develop the communities in which it operated.

The Asantehene thanked the management and staff of Tigo for their unwavering support towards enhancing the country’s cultural heritage, and called on other stakeholders to emulate the gesture.
