UPSA convenes Business Leaders’ conclave with Otumfuo tomorrow

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, will headline this year’s Ghana Business Leaders’ Conclave, where he is expected to share insights on negotiation, mediation and ethical governance with some of the country’s top corporate executives.

The event, organised by the Otumfuo Centre for Traditional Leadership at University of Professional Studies, Accra, is scheduled for Friday, May 14, 2026, at the Kofi Ohene-Konadu Auditorium on the UPSA campus.

Held on the theme, “Leading With Integrity: Negotiation, Mediation and Ethical Governance for Business Sustainability,” the conclave is expected to bring together chief executive officers, board chairs, senior executives and policy leaders from key sectors of the economy for a closed-door executive dialogue under Chatham House Rules.

Organisers say the programme seeks to bridge traditional leadership values with contemporary corporate governance practices at a time when businesses are facing growing regulatory pressures, governance challenges, stakeholder activism and rising dispute risks.

Peace-Building

The Asantehene, widely recognised for his mediation and peace-building role in national and traditional affairs, is expected to draw on decades of experience in conflict resolution and institution-building to offer lessons on principled leadership and consensus-building.

According to the organisers, discussions will focus on how negotiation and mediation can be applied to real-world corporate challenges, including shareholder disputes, labour relations, contract disagreements, boardroom conflicts and community tensions.

The dialogue will also examine ethical leadership in difficult business environments, particularly how corporate leaders balance integrity, profitability, regulatory compliance and stakeholder expectations.

Other areas expected to feature prominently include corporate community relations, social licence to operate, dispute resolution mechanisms and strategies for building enduring institutions capable of sustaining long-term value beyond individual leadership tenures.

Participants

Participants will be drawn from sectors including banking, insurance, telecommunications, manufacturing, energy, extractives, logistics, fast-moving consumer goods and technology. Heads of legal, compliance, risk management, corporate affairs and human resources are also expected to attend.

Organisers believe the conclave will strengthen values-driven leadership within Ghana’s private sector while enhancing executive capacity in negotiation and dispute resolution.

At the end of the programme, a communiqué titled the Otumfuo Business Integrity and Mediation Charter will be issued. A documentary and monograph on traditional leadership and business governance will also be produced, alongside an executive insight note capturing key lessons from the discussions.

The conclave is also expected to pave the way for future executive leadership programmes under the Otumfuo Centre for Traditional Leadership, including masterclasses, advisory engagements, short courses and leadership development initiatives.

Strategic partners for the event include the Ghana Employers Association, Association of Ghana Industries, Ghana National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Private Enterprise Federation and Institute of Directors-Ghana.
