Give us good shows

As everyone in the entertainment sector agrees that there is still a lot of work to be done if Ghana wants to grow its entertainment industry, the sad truth is that many are simply not prepared to put in the work required to raise the standards.

It’s appalling that at this stage in the development of the sector, the perennial problem of the late start of events and shows is still a regular occurrence event goers have to contend with.  The Exclusive Men of the Year (EMY) awards which came off last Saturday was a classic example of the frustrating and poorly organised and coordinated events Ghanaians have become accustomed to.

The show which was advertised to begin at 6:00pm started over two hours later and thanks to poor organisation by the organisers, the show dragged on till the early hours of Sunday. For an award which touts itself as rewarding and recognising the men who are the movers and shakers of Ghanaian society, the actual event fell very short of expectations.

It is little wonder that three-quarters of patrons “escaped” even before the main award was presented. Internationally renowned musician, Freddie Meiwey, who was the star performer at the event had no option but to perform to the handful of patrons who were left.

There is no doubt the award scheme is a very laudable and prestigious one which must be matched with a well organised event night  to make it worth its salt,  thus rganisers of the EMY awards should bow their heads for the work they did last Saturday. Showbiz believes it is about time patrons start holding organisers accountable for poorly organised events because this is the only way things will start to change and be better.
