Adofo Jnr, City Boys Band International on the move
Ahead of their performance at the Super Highlife Show, Adofo Jnr, son of Ghanaian highlife legend Obuoba J. A. Adofo, says he hopes to continue his father’s legacy by keeping the City Boys Band International as one of the best bands in Africa and also giving people beautiful messages through music.
Four months in, and it is looking like 2022 is City Boys’ year. The Ghanaian highlife band has recently achieved many career firsts — with more on the way.
This April, the City Boys International landed their first US show, The Super Highlife Show where they will perform in four venues in New York.
The band is expected to thrill highlife music lovers at 1211 Brook AVE on June 17 and then make a stop at the Bronx N.Y 10458 on June 24. The band will then continue to perform on July 22 and July 29 at 1948 Washington AVE ST. Joseph Church Hall Bronx N.Y 10458 and 1211 Brook AVE Bronx N.Y 10458 respectively.
Ahead of their performance, City Boys International are busy rehearsing in Accra and perfecting their acts for the big nights. They plan to pay homage to their roots. “I want to represent my country, Ghana and continue from where my father stopped,” Adofo Jnr told The Mirror recently.
The City Boys International is already a household name in their native Ghana and throughout Africa. The band charms listeners and entertains audiences with their voices on live performances.
The band, known for their spectacular performances, has won many awards including LifeTime Achievement Award at the 3Music Awards 2019 and also at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) the same year.
Obuoba J. A. Adofo has now handed over his City Boys Band International to his son Rubean Adofo popularly known as Adofo Jnr.
Adofo Jnr and the band have performed on many platforms in Ghana including Independence Day celebrations and durbars in some regions in the country. The City Boys International had also rocked music festivals in some African countries including Cote d’Ivoire, Benin and Nigeria.
