'Gospel music is not for entertainment'

Gospel music in the past has mostly been seen as an evangelism tool for its followers but new gospel artiste, Mike Ewuah, says same cannot be said of the genre in recent times.

To him, some of the new crop of artistes love to do music to entertain their fans rather than winning souls for Christendom.

The artiste who has worked with the likes of Kwaku Gyasi, Rev. Mensah Bonsu and Francis Asumadu as a backing vocalist made this assertion in an interview with Showbiz on Tuesday

He said that gospel artistes should find priority in “serving the purpose of God” with their music than seeking unnecessary competition to entertain people with their music.

“I am not saying that gospel artistes are so righteous and so their association with our brothers from the other side is a sin. That is not it at all.

“The truth is that, gospel music is not for entertainment. It should have a message which is uplifting and gives hope,” he said.

Although he admitted some of the new crop of gospel artistes are committed to the work of God, same cannot be said of others since “there are varying reasons people do gospel music”.

A member of the Church of Pentecost, Mike Awuah, who is under the management of Media Excel said he is ready  to launch his maiden album, Holy Ghost Fire, at the Cape Coast Town Hall next Month.

The songs on the nine track album are Odo Ben Nie, Yesu ye madanfo, Me hye nkom, M’dansie, M3ka wo k3se y3, Me Nyame Ye and Odofo pa sore.

He said the title of the album is a prophecy about his life and he is hopeful the message on the songs will be a testimony for people.
