I’m a sick man – Lumba explains poor performance at VGMA

Legendary highlife musician, Daddy Lumba has said the substandard stage performance he put up at the 2015 Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) last Sunday was unintentional and that it was due to ill health.

Everyone knows Daddy Lumba is not well and that I have been battling with ill heath for a while; and this is not my type of performance but I am not well. I decided to do the show because of the huge love I have for Ghanaians and also to show appreciation for the support Ghana has given me for the past 30 years, Daddy Lumba said.

He spoke on Peace FM’s Entertainment Review programme hosted by Akwasi Aboagye on Sunday.

Many have expressed disappointment at the performance Lumba put up at the VGMA.

It was as though he was reluctant to appear on stage after he was announced by the MC and his band and dancers had to spend several minutes playing and waiting for him.

When Lumba finally appeared on stage, he was dressed in an oversized constume and appeared frail.

The performance was a sharp contrast to the energetic and electrifying theatrics Lumba had been known for over the years.
