Fennec Okyere

What about the killers of Fennec Okyere?

It makes sense to start this piece with something that Kwaw Kese said in respect to the killers of his late and former manager, Fennec Okyere; the fact that those killers have not been brought to book to face the law but yet Ghana Police has speedily arrested the ‘killer’ of a former legislator.

It sends a clear and serious signal and I strongly think that, those entertainers endorsing political parties must take a cue from that. In Ghana, the politician is more important and powerful than any other person.

“I think my manager's case has not been dealt with the way the late MP’s case has been dealt with. I want to ask the police if it’s because my manger was not an MP.”

"This is a man who was doing great in his field of work and as a matter of fact a loyal Ghanaian. If a Ghanaian has been murdered and up till date there hasn’t been any clue, then I would say the security system is being biased”.

“Recently, there was news about somebody saying another person threatened to kill him like he killed the other person and I think that was a big clue the police should have jumped on to thoroughly investigate that person and find out why he said that but nothing came out of that.”

“To me, I think the police are being biased and I don’t think you should be a Member of Parliament, a minister, or somebody working for the government before they deal with our cases for us”.

“I still pray and hope that the truth will come out and I am urging the police to use similar tactics to give us some answers to my manager's killers,” Kwaw Kese told TV3 Network.

Entertainers not respected

After the news of the arrest of the ‘killer’ of the late New Patriotic Party Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa North was reported everywhere like Ghana has just won a FIFA World Cup, I couldn’t help but to scream the headline for this piece; what about the killer or killers of Fennec Okyere?

It is not as if I’m against the ‘swift’ arrest of the person behind the demise of the late Mr Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu, whereas nothing concrete has been heard in the murder of Fennec Okyere, the late manager of Kwaw Kese who was killed in March 2014 -  almost two years after the incidence.

When Hiplife artiste and former member of the defunct group Nananom, Sidney released his Obiaa Nye Obiaa song in 2010, I was personally not happy with the song.

Obiaa Nye Obiaa simply means “nobody is nobody’ and in essence preaches about equality.  The song says that irrespective of one’s social status, achievement and all that, everyone is equal.

My problem with the song actually is that, looking at the present conditions in Ghana, we cannot be said to be practicing Obiaa Nye Obiaa policy.

You can only share the sentiments that nobody is nobody but so far as I’m concerned, you are only deceiving yourself.

Listen, in Ghana, the politician is far more important than the ordinary Ghanaian citizen. A lot of seriousness is attached to the lives of politicians than Ghanaians in general.

About 10 Ghanaians can die, it’s certainly normal news but when one politician for that matter, a Member of Parliament dies, then it becomes big news. This unfortunate trend makes one wonder what is wrong with Ghanaians.

Entertainers or people in the entertainment fraternity have huge followers to the extent that politicians fall on them during campaign periods in an election year.

This year is not different as some of them have already started endorsing and campaigning for various flagbearers of political parties.

It is not as if they are not approached, elections cannot be won, but they are considered because they play an integral part in the society, to some extent the lives of the ordinary Ghanaians who are the voters.

These entertainers mount stages and help politicians in their campaigns to win elections. In so doing, they manage to convince some of their followers to vote for the party or the candidate they endorse.

But the sad truth is that, entertainers are least respected by the politician. After all the fanfare and after elections are won, they are totally ignored by these same people they risked their lives to endorse and campaign for.

Murder of Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu

Last Tuesday, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Abuakwa North, Mr Joseph Boakye Danquah-Adu was murdered in cold blood by unidentified assailants at his residence at Shiashie, near the Tetteh Quarshie Interchange in Accra.

Two days after the sad incidence, a report suggested that the Accra Regional Police Command have arrested a man suspected to have been behind the murder of the former Abuakwa North legislator.

According to reports, the alleged killer was arrested in an operation that started on Wednesday and ended on Thursday dawn led by the Regional Commander, COP Dr. George Akuffo Dampare.

Prior to his arrest, the Police placed a GHC 10,000 bounty for information that could lead to the arrest of the alleged killers. It’s the wish of every Ghanaian that, Ghana Police will work swiftly like this to arrest situations such as this.

Fennec Okyere

On Marcy 13, 2014, Fennec Okyere, the then manager of Kwaw Kese was brutally murdered at his residence at Spintex.

Almost two years after his demise, nothing has been heard, not to talk of an arrest of the people involved in the heinous crime. The circumstances may be different but it’s all boils down to murder.

Though somebody was arrested as a prime suspect because the person had had a misunderstanding with him, he has since been released and nothing has been heard again.

Like Kwaw Kese said, “recently there was news on somebody saying another person threatened to kill him like he killed the other person” nothing substantial came out even though the person who made the allegation and the person he made it against were invited by the police for interrogations.

This tells us that, perhaps the Police didn’t use the same tactics they used to apprehend the killer of the former legislator in the case of Fennec Okyere.

Perhaps if Fennec Okyere was an MP, who knows his killers would be waking up at the Nsawam Prisons by now.
