Rainstorm destroys Kukobila-Nasia Farms

Property affected were a 100-acre centre pivot irrigation system, a solar panel system, a 200-metric tonne warehouse, farm quarters that provided shelter for about 15 farm workers and a cattle pen, all running into millions of cedis.

The strong winds that accompanied the rains also destroyed a 10-acre mango farm and electricity poles and ripped off part of the roof of a pack house situated near the Tamale-Bolgatanga highway which was funded by the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, with support from the African Development Bank (AfDB) and the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).

NADMO assessment

The Manager of the Kukobila-Nasia Farms, Mr Hisham Seidu, who conducted officials of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) round to assess the damage caused by the rainstorm, said the entire infrastructure base had been destroyed.

“We were fortunate to have the cattle and the sheep grazing, otherwise we would have lost them when the pen was totally razed to the ground by the rainstorm.

“We will welcome any form support. Virtually everything has been destroyed. We just have to start from the ground again,” he said.

The Savelugu Municipal Administrator of NADMO, Alhaji Yakubu Ibrahim, said he would submit a report on the situation to the regional and the national offices of the organisation for further action.
