Afua Asantewaa crosses 43 hours in Singing Marathon attempt

Guinness World Record (GWR) contender Afua Asantewaa O. Aduonum has surpassed 43 hours in her second attempt to set the record for the longest singing marathon by an individual.

The marathon began at dawn on December 21, 2024, at Heroes' Park, Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi, and is scheduled to run until December 25.

The determined songstress has been performing exclusively Ghanaian songs, a deliberate effort to celebrate and promote the country’s rich musical heritage on a global platform.

The atmosphere at Heroes' Park is picking up, with her husband, Kofi Owusu Aduonum, family members, and some Kumasi residents present to cheer her on. Their support has visibly energized the singer, whose resilience and passion have inspired many.

This marks her second attempt at the title, following a December 2023 effort that fell short of surpassing the existing record of 105 hours held by India’s Sunil Waghmare. Undeterred by the previous setback, Afua Asantewaa and her team remain optimistic.

Asantewaa’s ongoing "Singathon" is topping the trends on social media, with many Ghanaians following her progress.
