Akosua Serwaa is not only spouse of Daddy Lumba - Kumasi High Court
The High Court in Kumasi has ruled that Akosua Serwaa is not the only person the late Daddy Lumba was married to.
The Law Platform reports that the High Court presided over by Justice Mrs. Dorinda Smith Arthur has therefore dismissed the application of Akosua Serwaa, who was asking the court to declare that she should be given recognition as the only surviving spouse of Daddy Lumba and the sole individual entitled to perform widowhood rites at his funeral.

Charles Kwadwo Fosu, the legendary Ghanaian highlife musician who is commonly referred to as Daddy Lumba, died at the Bank Hospital in Accra on July 26, 2025, at the age of 60.
When the family started preparations for his funeral, confusion erupted after his family head reportedly announced that Akosua Serwaa cannot claim to be Lumba's only spouse.
It later emerged that the family head had again announced that Akosua Serwaa and Patricia Ofori, commonly referred to as Odo Broni, who was living with Lumba in Accra and had six children with him, would both perform the widowhood rites.
After the one-week observation, Akosua Serwaa initiated a court action at the Kumasi High Court, arguing that she was married to Daddy Lumba under civil law, and thus, the only lawful wife.
She therefore wanted the court to declare her as the only person who should be recognised as the spouse and had the sole responsibility to perform widowhood rites.

But the Law Platform reports that the judgment, which was read on Friday [Nov 28, 2025] at the packed courtroom, indicated that for the issue regarding the civil marriage between Akosua Serwaa and Lumba, the plaintiff could not prove civil marriage between her and the deceased hence there was no existing civil marriage between her, Akosua Serwaa, and Charles Kwadwo Fosu (Lumba).
According to the Kumasi High Court, in its 74-page judgment, what existed between Akosua Serwaa and Daddy Lumba was just their customary marriage. The Court thus held that, Akosua Serwaa cannot be said to be the only surviving spouse of Daddy Lumba.
It held that Priscilla Ofori alias Odo Broni was also a wife.
The comprehensive decision of the High Court under the hand of Dorinda Smith Arthur J. suggests that Priscilla Ofori, a known wife of Daddy Lumba was also a wife to the deceased and thus holds all rights under law as a spouse.
The court set December 1, 2025, as the date for the availability of certified copy of the judgment.
According to the decision of the court, the family of Daddy Lumba shall have the right to determine which of the wives will perform widowhood rites.
