Affectionately called ‘The Simigwa Do Man’ and ‘The Father of Rap,’ Ambolley celebrated his Silver Jubilee in music in 1998.

The accomplished singer, songwriter, producer, and sax player will be accompanied by the Sekondi Band who will help him explore his favourite musical terrains such as Afro-beat, highlife, jazz funk and mainstream jazz.

“They have been with me for a long time so we gel very well. They are always on fire to deliver. The guys are simply good,” Ambolley says of the players in his Sekondi band which include crack instrumentalists like Colonel Faat (tenor sax), Kuuku Ansong (flugel horn) and Segun (alto sax).

Ambolley has toured throughout West Africa, Europe, Canada and the United States. He has performed on the same stage with some of the world’s most celebrated artistes like Miriam Makeba,  Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, George Howard, Angela Bofill and Manu Dibango.

He has about 17 albums to his credit and has received numerous awards here and abroad for his ingenuity.

At some of his shows, he sings a lot and does his dance, Simigwa antics. At other times, however, he comes on strong as a saxophone player and nothing else.

His fans are definitely anxious to see what sort of show would be presented to launch the new African Soul album.

Institut Français (Ghana) and Alliance Française (Accra) are supporting the concert.
