2023 BET Awards: Burna Boy makes history as first Nigerian act to win BET Best International Act four times
Nigeria’s Burna Boy continues to build a strong and enviable brand with his winning spree yesterday, June 25, when he made history as the first Nigerian artiste to win the Best International Act award at this year’s edition of BET Awards.

Even though the Last Last hitmaker was not present at the award show, held at Microsoft Theatre, in Los Angeles, California, his mother, Bose Ogulu, received the award on his behalf.
Burna Boy beat a strong competition from Nakamura (France), Ayra Starr (Nigeria), Central Cee (UK), Ella Mai (UK), Ko (South Africa), L7nnon (Brazil), Stormzy (UK), Tiakola (France) and Uncle Waffles (Swaziland) to win the award.
This award comes after Burna Boy won it in 2019, 2021 and last year with his Damini album.
Despite winning the Best International Act, Burna Boy lost the Best Male R&B / Pop Artist to Usher and Chris Brown who were tied for the award.
Nigeria’s Singer/songwriter Tems took home the “Best Collaboration” award for her contribution to Future’s ‘Wait For U’ featuring Drake.
It was rather a sad one for Ghana’s Camidoh who lost out on his first BET Award when Cameroon’s Lady Bianca won BET Viewers Choice: Best New International Act award.
SZA and Beyoncé each won three times, including tying for the Album of the Year Award.
Other Trending Stories
HipHop star Busta Rhymes received the Lifetime Achievement Award at the event that marked 50 years of HipHop.
Other winners on the night were Drake & 21 Savage took the Best Group award while Coco Jones won Best New artiste awards.
