Consider corporate gigs —Efe Keyz encourages young acts
WHILE many emerging acts wait in anticipation to rock stages with the “big guys” in the game in order to get attention, Afropop artiste, Ellen Ayensuaa Gyapong popularly known as Efe Keyz, advises they consider other avenues.
Her reason being that event organisers see these big platforms as very relevant thus even doing up-and-coming acts a favour. They take advantage of them and even end up not paying them.

She told Graphic Showbiz that she has observed from experience that it is always better for new acts to build their fans through playing corporate gigs where they are assured of good payment.
She disclosed that she made good money by playing corporate gigs and at smaller shows since they appreciated her craft.
“Big shows are not really for young acts since they don’t pay because event organisers feel they are giving you the platform to promote yourself. They will always put bigger artistes ahead of you because they think they are doing you a favour.
“So I resolved to play at smaller events and at places where I can get value for my services. Music only pays if you are wise and professional and I’m proud to say I have acquired something through music,” she stated.
With strong convictions that she’s got what it takes to succeed as a musician, Efe Keyz announced her presence right after graduating from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) in 2017.
Her maiden single Meye Obaa featuring Donzy of Crusade fame in 2018 got her some recognition. Armed with the knowledge that consistency was key to unlocking the fortunes of fame, Efe subsequently dropped songs such as Video Call, Juju, Party Time, Feelings, Pepper, Come Close and Badda Dan Bad.

At the moment, she is vying for New Artiste of the Year award at this year’s Ghana Music Awards-USA (GMA-USA) and her hopes are already high to grab the prize.
