Don’t underrate my popularity— Fancy Gadam
Tamale-based artiste, Fancy Gadam, has slammed critics saying he did not deserve to win Hiplife Song of the Year and Vodafone Song of the Year at the VGMA held at the Accra International Conference Centre(AICC) last Saturday.
Murmurs and shouts of ‘No, no’ filled the auditorium of the AICC when Fancy Gadam’s name was mentioned as winner of the Song of the Year award but the self-acclaimed King of the North, who said he worked very hard in the year under review said he even deserved more awards.
Fancy Gadam who beat the likes of Patapaa, Kidi, Kuami Eugene, Ebony, Joe Mettle, Shatta Wale, King Promise, Sarkodie and Captain Planet to win Vodafone Song of the Year and again beat Nacee, Sarkodie, Captain Planet, Shatta Wale and Patapaa for Hiplife Song of the Year said he has been underrated.
“I don’t blame those saying I don’t deserve the two awards. I think Ghanaians are underestimating my popularity. For crying out loud it is Ghana Music Awards not Accra Music Awards and my popularity is beyond measure and that is what I want Ghanaians to know.

“The history is there and I want everyone who doubts my popularity to go and watch my shows on YouTube. From the North to Kumasi and Accra, I have rocked and filled every platform I am given and I have proven beyond reasonable that I am the best,” he told Showbiz in an interview shortly after the event which lasted into the early hours of yesterday, Sunday, April 15.
According to Fancy Gadam, he would have won the Artiste of the Year hands down had he been nominated. “I almost dropped out of this year‘s VGMA when I got to know my name was not part of musicians in the Artiste of the Year but I wanted to prove a point so I let go,” he said.
On how he has been able to make it this big, Fancy Gadam said his die-hard fans are everywhere and not in the North alone. To him, his fans are willing to go the extra mile and do anything for him because of the connection they have.
“I am always on social media interacting with them 24/7, updating them on my day- to-day activities and they also advise me sometimes. I think about my fans more than I think about myself and I believe it is the reason they are always there for me” he said.
