The iconic musician passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at the age of 60, leaving behind a legacy that has profoundly impacted Ghanaian music and culture.

Born on September 29, 1964, Daddy Lumba rose to prominence with his unique fusion of traditional Highlife rhythms and contemporary influences known as ‘Burger Highlife’. (Read Daddy Lumba’s songs: A mirror unto us)

His voice was a masterclass in emotion, his lyrics a mirror to Ghanaian life. From ‘Aben Wo Aha’, ‘Yentie Obiaa’, ‘Mpempem Do Me’,’ Akwanoma’ and ‘Sika’ to *Yentie Obiaa* among others, his hits weren’t just songs—they were anthems. Over 30 albums, countless classics, and a career spanning decades cemented him as a legend.

Daddy Lumba's influence extended beyond his music. He played a significant role in shaping Ghana's music industry, mentoring emerging artists, and nurturing talent. His production studio and DLFM radio station provided opportunities for new artistes to shine, making his legacy as a music icon and industry leader stronger.

But Lumba was more than a musician—he was a cultural architect. His influence stretched beyond the studio. He mentored rising stars, built platforms such as DLFM, a radio station, and shaped the industry itself.

His music didn’t just entertain; it narrated Ghana’s story—its love, struggles and triumphs. Even politics felt his impact—’ Nana Ye Winner’ became a rallying cry for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) campaigns, proving his reach was boundless.

The tributes say it all. The outpour of tributes from fans, fellow musicians and public figures has hailed his genius.

President John Dramani Mahama, former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, former Vice-President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, and Members of Parliament have all paid glowing tributes to the departed icon, celebrating his contributions to Ghanaian music and culture.
