Ghana Music Awards tonight

It’s been several weeks of controversies following the launch of this year’s Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA) in last January but the simmering tension that has brewed will calm down tonight when the Accra International Conference Centre hosts the final event.

Just like any competition where contestants have high expectations to emerge winners, the nominees in the various categories are confident to clinch some awards tonight but, perhaps, the important question on everyone’s lips tonight is “ who will be crowned Artiste of the Year?”.

Artistes vying for the topmost award this year are Castro, Kwabena Kwabena, Sonnie Badu, Shatta Wale, Sarkodie, Samini and Guru. But the organiser of the event, Charterhouse, has put plans in place to not let that take the shine off the show this evening.

There is an awesome line up of 20 Ghanaian artistes and three top African acts to treat  patrons to good music. Artistes on the bill include celebrated Ghanaian gospel artiste, Sonnie Badu, and his 12 piece band.

Samini and Kwabena Kwabena have remained phenomenal on the Ghana music scene and beyond. From last year to date, Samini has been compelled to step up his act a notch higher as his every move has somewhat been compared to that of fellow dancehall artiste, Shatta Wale.

Kwabena Kwabena on the other hand has earned a great deal of respect across varied audience. Until a few young ones recently dared enter the space, it appeared he was the sole young man flying the highlife flag in GH, and the “ladies man” will be in full swing to deliver his adult stuff to the patrons.

Castro, Bisa Kdei, Jupiter, Stonebwoy, Guru, Joey B, OJ and a couple of international acts are also set to rock the stage. Notable among these are hot Nigerian acts, Iyanya and Davido, who have both resolved to leave memories on the VGMA stage.

Sarkodie is expected to treat his fans and the rest of GH to what he’s really made of when he gets on stage this evening for not just an awards show but a night of great music and performances.

There are 30 award categories split between 15 public votes and 15 industry vote awards but already, some of the artistes have been smiling since they had their share of the awards at the Industry Night held last week Saturday at the Alisa Hotel.

The 15th Vodafone Ghana Music Awards is sponsored by Vodafone and supported by Star Beer, Golden Tulip Hotel, Alisa Hotel, KPMG and GhOne TV.
