GHANAFEST 2015 marked with pomp and pageantry

Ghana's rich culture was the toast of thousands of patrons at this year’s GhanaFest celebrations in Chicago, Illinois, USA last weekend.
This year’s festival which is the 27th edition is one of the leading gathering of Ghanaians living in the US.

The event which, brought together thousands of people amidst the pomp and pageantry of the traditional leadership of the various associations in the United States.

They displayed the rich Ghanaian culture as paraded through the Washington Park with traditional rhythmic renditions of their various groupings.

World renowned Master Drummer, Okyerema Asante, famous for performing all parts of a traditional five-person drum group was there to captivate the gathering with his performances.

Mrs. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, speaking as the guest of honour commended President John Dramani Mahama for the commitment towards the development of the tourism, culture and creative arts sector.

The minister who led a delegation made up of stakeholders in the creative industry to the festival said that the Ministry has initiated number of projects to develop and market Ghana’s tourism.

“ It is refreshing to see young people play different roles in the festival. It is a sign of preserving the country's rich culture for the younger generation especially in the face of techonological advancement”, she said.

GhanaFest has over the years become an annual event that depicts not only Ghana's traditional thanksgiving celebrations, and a cultural exposition of the diverse and rich Ghanaian culture to the American public and the world at-large, but also as a day for reaffirming our national unity and brotherhood.
