GTA partners Vodza Easter Regatta 2026 for thrilling coastal experience

The Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), in partnership with the Vodza Event Initiative (VEI) Board, has officially launched the 2026 edition of the Vodza Easter Regatta at a colourful ceremony held at Vodza, near Keta in the Volta Region, recently.

The three-day regatta, scheduled to take place from Friday, April 3 to April 5, is expected to draw thousands of revellers to the coastal enclave as part of this year’s Easter festivities.

Organised under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, the festival is being held in collaboration with the Keta Municipal Assembly, traditional authorities and key tourism stakeholders, as part of efforts to deepen domestic tourism and promote community-based cultural experiences.

Now in its fifth year, the Vodza Easter Regatta has grown steadily into one of the Volta Region’s most anticipated tourism events, showcasing the rich heritage of the Anlo people while creating economic opportunities for local communities.

This is the first time GTA is partnering to give it a national spotlight like Kwahu Paragliding festival.

Activities lined up for this year’s edition include the popular Woezor Night at the Keta Parks and Gardens, traditional canoe rowing competitions, beach games, cultural performances and the Canoe Jam Music Festival at the Emancipation Beach Resort.

Patrons will also be treated to food bazaars featuring authentic Ghanaian and Volta-Anlo cuisine, exhibitions of local crafts and artefacts, as well as organised tours and tourism exhibitions designed to highlight the scenic beauty of the southern Volta enclave.

The regatta, which forms part of GTA’s coordinated Easter Celebration Calendar under the Black Star Experience initiative, is aimed at encouraging Ghanaians to explore local destinations during festive periods.

In an interview with Graphic Showbiz after the launch, Chief Executive Officer of GTA, Maame Efua Houadjeto, emphasised the importance of the festival in reshaping Ghana’s tourism scene.

“The Vodza Easter Regatta is more than a festival; it is a platform for showcasing our culture, empowering local communities and driving domestic tourism.

“We are intentional about making destinations like Vodza must-visit experiences on Ghana’s tourism calendar,” she said.

She added that the Authority’s collaboration with local partners reflects a broader commitment to diversifying tourism offerings beyond traditional hotspots while positioning Ghana as a preferred destination for cultural and experiential tourism.
