Hausa Music Awards for October 7
It will be a night to celebrate Hausa music and artistes from the Zongo communities when the first Hausa Music Awards comes off at the National Theatre on Friday, October 7.
The awards ceremony, which is being organised by Xcess Entertainment in collaboration with Stepford Multimedia and supported by MUSIGA, is also aimed at highlighting the progress of Hausa music in the Ghana music industry.
As such, some artistes living in the Zongos as well Hausa speaking artistes have been nominated in the various categories to be awarded on the night.
Among the popular artistes who were announced at the Nomination Party held at the Sky Bar, Asylum Down, Accra last week were Rudebwoy Ranking, Rashid Metal, Garba, Samimi, Friction, D Flex and Luther.
In all, the awards scheme covers 15 categories. They include Artiste of the Year, Religious Song of the Year, Album of the Year, Best Rapper, Most Popular Song, Best Group, Hiphop Artiste of the Year and People’s Choice Awards.
Rudebwoy Ranking, Bastero, Rashid Metal, Multi Rolls, Garba, Capasta and D Sheriff are competing for the Artiste of the Year award. Shatta Wale comes up against the likes of Stonebwoy, Samini, Ras Kuku, Sarkodie, Edem and El for the People’s Choice Award.
In an interview with Showbiz yesterday, September 7, Mr. Paul Doe, Event Coordinator of Xcess Entertainment, said the Hausa Music Awards which is the first of its kind provides a sense of pride for Zongo artistes.
“ It is also to encourage them to reach for the greatest heights in their respective careers. Apart from that, the awards scheme will also bring exposure to Hausa speaking artistes in the country and beyond”.
The Zongo youth is very passionate about music which is quite evident in the talents such as Rashid Metal and Rudebwoy Ranking who come from the Zongo communities.
“Hausa is one of the most widely spoken languages in Africa and it’s only right to celebrate artistes who project the language and its culture through their music,” Doe said.
Rudebwoy Ranking, Rashid Metal, Garba, Star Gyal Denora, Tinny, Episode, Capasta, Morell are the line - up of Ghanaian artistes to entertain patrons on the night.
Classiq and Adam Zongo from Nigeria and Niger respectively are also billed to thrill their Ghanaian fans with some of their popular songs.
That is not all, prior to the main awards night, a series of activities have been lined up to herald the event. They are Development Seminar for nominees at the MUSIGA Office on Wednesday, September 14, and a Nominees’ Concert scheduled for Saturday, September 24, on the Nima Highway.
