I love modelling – Barbara
Unlike on the international scene, modelling in Ghana does not really pay much and many a young woman has realised to their disappointment that it is better as a side job if they want to pay the bills and survive.

However, the challenges and sometimes gloomy prospects for the modelling industry is not deterring wannabe, Barbara Ewurama McCarthy, who says modelling is her passion and she is determined to make it her full time job.
She recently took part in the Miss Galaxy beauty pageant where she was the first-runner up and also took home two prizes for Miss Runway and Miss Project for National Sanitation Day.
The 24-year-old student of Central University, who is currently studying Business Management, told Showbiz she prefers modelling to working in the corporate world.
“I don’t know what I can do without modelling and I am seriously working towards achieving my dream. I know many young ladies will grab the opportunity to work in a bank or any other corporate organisation but all I want in this world is to be on an international stage modelling alongside the biggest names like Tyra Banks and Naomi Campbell.
“My management teams are in talks with some of the big models in Ghana like Victoria Michaels and Kate-Tachie Menson to get me there” she said.
That is certainly an ambitious dream for Barbara as at 24, she may be considered a bit too old for the international stage but her tenacity may get her there.
On whether she could be comfortable as a bikini model, Barbara, who is single at the moment, said at the initial stages of her career, she was very shy about exposing her body but has now accepted it as part of the job.
