I want to prove a point with my maiden album —Black Sherif

FAST rising Ghanaian musician Black Sherif has disclosed he didn’t feature any popular artiste on his maiden album, The Villain I Never Was, to prove a point young artistes can be successful without riding on big names.

This is because the mark he has made since he came on the music scene some two years ago could have easily attracted any A-list acts to jump on his album.

But he wanted to encourage other up and coming artistes to appreciate their God-given talent and not always depend on established names.

“I could have had some of the popular artistes on my new project but I wanted it to be only me on my debut. I have 14 songs on The Villain I Never Was.  I also have more than 30 songs featuring no other person which did not make it to the album,” he told Graphic Showbiz.

Talking about The Villain I Never Was which has songs such as 45, Konongo Zongo, We Up, Don’t Forget Me, Kwaku The Traveller, Wasteman, Oh Paradise, Oil In My Head and Soja, Black Sherif said the album is doing well because it is a story about his life.

“I feel the album is doing well because it speaks to people. I was so real on it and I guess it is the reason everyone is loving it.  I love to see people meditate with my works and I’m happy a song like Oh Paradise and others on the album are doing just that,” he said.

Asked his favourite track on the album, he said he would go for Soja and Oh Paradise. “I love all the songs on my album because they all tell different stories of me but Soja and Oh Paradise are dear to me because they bring back a lot of memories,” he revealed.

Black Sherif born Mohammed Ismail Sharrif got noticed when he released a single, Money two years ago.

He has further released other singles such as Destiny, Ade Akye, Ankonam, First Sermon, Second Sermon, Kwaku the Traveler among others, cementing his strong presence as one of the favourite Ghanaian artistes at the moment
