Klefe hails new yam with carnival
THE people of Klefe in the Volta Region on Sunday, September 9 hailed the new yam with a carnival street procession from the foot of the Galenkui Mountain in Ho to Klefe.
The hailing of the new yam sets the tone for the eating of the freshly harvested yam in various homes and celebration of the annual Yam festival.

The late afternoon procession saw various drum groups, people of all ages, locals and visitors making merry in different forms, amid loud music, before converging at Achatime Park for an all-night-long fine fun session.
There was open fufu and light soup parties on the streets at various stages of the processions, which saw some of the celebrants in farm attires and others in comical outfits.
The procession turned into an uncontrollable euphoria when the Paramount Chief of Klefe, Togbe Dzaga XI turned up at the Ho-Klefe junction to take part in the fun.
This year’s Yam festival celebration which will be climaxed with a grand durbar at the Klefe-Dome Park on Saturday, September 28 is on the theme Peace, Unity and Commitment – Sureties For Development.
The objective is to raise funds to support the Klefe Technical Institute (KTI).
The festival will be marked with a night of traditional music and dances – Gada, Sodoe, Zigi, Asiwa, Borborbor, and Kpalongo; football gala, clean up exercise, and ancestral walks, among other activities.

According to the chairman of the festival planning committee, Evans Kwami Buami the grand durbar would be graced by the Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin, and Chief of Staff of Ghana, Akosua Frema Osei-Opare.
