Kojo Black returns with Atiaa

MONTHS after setting out to promote Highlife music with Highlife Agogo, Daniel Addo known by the stage name Kojo Black is once again living his dream with a new song, Atiaa.

Produced by Pken-pg studioz, Atiaa which is set for release on May 25, takes listeners back to “old school” love where couples lived the best of their love lives despite the absence of mobile phones and social media.

“Atiaa talks about old school Ghanaian love and relationship in the villages where there were no mobile phones and social media and the only way to talk to your partner was to meet up physically.

“However, that didn’t restrain them from professing genuine love to each other. The song entails all the tips and tricks used during those days and the young guys can take a cue from it when they listen to Atiaa,” Kojo Black stated.

According to Kojo Black, Highlife Agogo and Atiaa form part of his Highlife advocacy project which he started last year to promote Highlife since it is the only genre that gives identity to Ghanaian music.

“I’ve always said that no music genre can push us and give us global recognition than Highlife and that was my motivation for starting my project last year.

“However, as a lover of tradition and traditional music, I decided to merge our strict traditional songs with Highlife to create Juju-Highlife and I’m certain this project will do well.

“Traditional recitations and juju music have little concern to keys, tempo restrictions and timing but with the blend of Highlife, I make my songs more commercial to be enjoyed by all,” he added.

Kojo Black, who is inspired by the works of Osibisa started commercial music nine years ago in 2015, and has since released songs such as Sunshine in Africa, Nipa, Highlife Agogo, Madi Aduro, Happy Day, Agatha  and Makola to Kaneshie.

Presently, Kojo Black is vying for the New Artiste of the Year (Diaspora) and Highlife Song of the Year (Diaspora) at this year’s Ghana Music Awards, USA.

“This is a dream come true for me and a pat on my back for all the effort I have put in my craft over the years and I urge my fans to massively vote for me. I really look forward to walking home with at least, an award on the night,” Kojo Black disclosed.
