The call for entries is open from September 1 to December 31, 2015. A shortlist of 10 finalists will be selected by the distinguished jury of renowned artists, art dealers, collectors and professors. The ultimate winner and two runners-up will be chosen from the shortlist, and announced at an award event in April 2016.

Submission is by digital in the first instance via the website www.kuenyehiaprize.org.

A statement from the trustees said “after a successful inaugural season, the Kuenyehia Prize for Contemporary Ghanaian Art has gained a coveted place on the calendar for artists and art enthusiasts in Ghana.

“The nation is filled with incredibly talented artists, and this is the beginning of the journey to find a worthy winner to take over from the inaugural winner, Kwame Akoto-Bamfo, and the two runners-up Kelvin Haizel and Isaac Addico.”

Winning artists will get the chance to share in the GH¢25,000 prize money and will also benefit from business training, coaching and mentoring to last throughout their careers.

The Kuenyehia Prize for Contemporary Ghanaian Art is currently open to emerging and mid-career artists who are citizens of the Republic of Ghana, live in Ghana and are between the ages of 25 and 40.

Inspired by the most famous art prize in the world – UK’s Turner Prize – the objective of the Kuenyehia Prize for Contemporary Ghanaian Art is to identify, reward, promote and develop Ghana’s brightest young artists and to showcase and celebrate excellence in contemporary Ghanaian art.
