MTN LAL Ball slated for Dec. 29

After months of being tight-lipped over whether there would be MTN Legends and Legacy (LAL) Ball this year, organisers, Imajin Advertising, has finally come out to say that the 2015 event would come off on Tuesday, December 29, at the Accra International Conference Centre.

The MTN LAL Ball was established in 2011 to honour outstanding Ghanaian musicians.

This year marks the fifth anniversary  of the programme but unlike the previous  shows where a fresh legend was celebrated each year, Imajin Advertising has decided to  put on the first three celebrants:  Daddy Lumba (2011),  Amakye Dede (2012) and  AB Crentsil (2013)  for a joint bash this year.

According  to  Mr Fred Kyei, Chief Operations Officer  (COO) at Imajin Advertising, this year’s show is being packaged as a ‘special thank you edition’ for music lovers.

“We have tried to modify the event only for this year,” Mr Kyei said. “There are more legends  out there that can be celebrated but we want to do a recap  with some of the past celebrants  as a special treat.”

The MTN LAL Ball usually has a string of support acts who perform songs by the main celebrant on the night. Mr Kyei did not say who the support acts would be this year but added,   “there would be pleasant surprises with regard to that.”

Many people would vouch for a concert with Daddy Lumba, Amakye Dede and AB Crentsil on the same stage  to be a crowd-puller  but  there is still a sense of deflation among music fans for   Imajin Advertising’s inability to honour any of the several other folks that the company itself  agrees are qualified  to be celebrated as legends.
