My girl was special and I will forever miss her – Ebony’s dad

Father of songstress Ebony, Nana Poku Kwarteng, has described his daughter as a gem who will be missed by Ghanaians.

In an interview following the tragic death of the 20-year old musician, Mr Kwarteng described his daughter Ebony, real name, Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng as a “pretty queen” who “was so unique.”

“She was so special and that’s why I called her Ohemaa from day one. Ohemaa was amazing. Her title was her personality.

“If I should describe my girl, she was amazing, splendid. She was so unique and Ghana is going to have it tough to have [loss] someone like this pretty queen,” the grief-stricken father said.

He had more to say about Ebony: “She was a good writer. So loving and so caring. She was a gem.”

“My girl was special and I will forever miss her,” he said, holding back tears.

Last moments

Mr Kwarteng said he last spoke to Ebony on Wednesday.

“I spoke to her a day before yesterday and she said she was going to see her mom. Her mom had returned from the UK and she needed to see her. I said okay and that was it.

“I asked her if she was driving cos I was scared [and] it was late… but she said she was with her driver, bodyguard and a friend. So I told her to take care of herself.”

Tipped for VGMA

Mr Kwarteng who has been the number one fan of his daughter was optimistic that she would have swept the topmost award at the yet to be held Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).

“Indeed she had already had it. Her latest songs could have made her the best. I believe she was going to win the best award; the supreme award so to speak. I knew she was going to win.”

Full support

Ebony had been criticised several times for her sense of fashion but Mr Kwarteng in an interview in July last year with the Graphic Showbiz said he was very proud of his daughter and supports everything she wore and did through and through.

He reiterated his support saying, “I was strongly behind her. I had given her my word that she should do what pleases her and she was doing exactly that.

“All that was said about her didn’t dissuade her one bit. I was pushing her.”

Tragic death

Ebony died on Thursday night after the Jeep she was travelling on run into a VIP bus.

She was scheduled for a tour in Europe and was to leave the country on Saturday, February 10, 2018.
