The announcement was made last Tuesday during the launch of the awards at the Tang Palace Hotel in Accra where the nominations were also released.

According to NMJ Ghana, organisers of the awards, it believes in brand association, which is one of the fundamental driving values of the Golden Movie Awards.

It also believes in  resilience, transparency and service which is  the guiding principle of the  organisation of the awards.

Thus, the organisers are convinced that associating with a strong brand like Nadia Buari is the way to go. However, the rest of the ambassadors were not mentioned at the ceremony.

In her acceptance speech, Nadia said she was surprised “to have to make the ambassadorial list,” adding that she was ready to work to promote the awards.

“I will do whatever it takes putting in, the time and effort it requires, so that our overall objective of changing African narratives through film will come to fruition. Thank you so much,” she said.

Ghanaian and Nigerian movies dominate this year’s nominations. Top Ghanaian actors and actresses including Yvonne Okoro, Juliet Ibrahim, Eddie Nartey, Salma Mumin, Zynnell Zuh, Joselyn Dumas and new actress Ophelia Klenam Dzidzornu were all on the nomination list.

Last Tuesday's event was attended by Grace Omaboe, Socrates Sarfo, Shirley Frimpong Manso, Nikki Samonas, Asare Hackman, Mr  and Mrs Elikem, Gloria Sarfo and a host of others.

The 2016 Golden Movie Awards event is being organised in collaboration with the African Women Development Fund.
