Olivetheboy signed on to Sony Music’s Columbia Records

Ghanaian Afrobeats singer Olivetheboy has inked a deal with Sony’s Columbia Records through subsidiary, Bu Vision Ent.

The fast rising artiste who was recently named Apple Music’s “UP Next” star  joins the impressive list of African icons to have signed to Sony Music, including D’Banj, Davido, Wizkid, and the legendary Angelique Kidjo.

The new partnership which was signed last week was led by Bu Vision founder and Columbia’s Executive Vice President Bu Thiam, with Olivetheboy’s management, Loop Music/FulLCircL Management Ltd.

There will be a special unveiling ceremony on Friday, August 24, 2023 to seal official arrangements.

Olivetheboy first caught the attention of Sony/Columbia Records through Bu Vision following the release of his now international hit single, Goodsin in May this year.

This good news comes after OlivetheBoy made headlines in June this year when he was named number one in the official Chartmetrics list of the Top five most streamed Ghanaian artistes in the first half of the year 2023.

His maiden song, Goodsin beat the likes of King Promise’s “Terminator” and “Into the future” by Stonebwoy to take the first spot.

The report compiled by renowned music data analytics giants, Chartmetrics and Soundcharts, observed streaming metrics from January to June 2023 for Ghanaian musicians and their songs across five different streaming platforms: Spotify, Audiomack, Tiktok, Boomplay and YouTube.

Mr Bu Vision flew down to Ghana in June, to work on the contract and sealing the deal after months of talks.

The new partnership requires Bu Vision to oversee the crooner’s A&R while all licensing, promotion and distribution of creative works will be managed by Sony/Columbia Records.

The new deal also suggests that Loop Music/FulLCircL Management Ltd will likely retain ownership of Olivetheboy’s recordings, as has been done to date.

This is the second time the label has signed a Ghanaian artiste, having signed Gyakie in 2021.

The new deal will certainly cement Olivetheboy’s streak of successes in the last few months since he announced his presence on the music scene.
