Atkinson's last outing as Mr Bean was at the Olympics Opening Ceremony where he brought a smile to the face of millions of fans around the world.
The actor is preparing to take the lead role in Simon Gray's Quartermaine's Terms in the West End.
Launched on ITV in 1990, Mr Bean pulled in massive viewing figures including almost 19million for the 1991 episode The Trouble With Mr Bean.
The show ran until 1995 and was seen 245 countries and made Rowan a global star reportedly worth £71million.
