SAA entices young people to travel
Though the world is now generally regarded as a global village where social media links up nearly everybody, physical travel is still encouraged for people, especially the young, to help them broaden their horizon.
South African Airways (SAA) which has for many years positioned itself as an enabler for tourism, is on the prowl for young people to travel on the airline.
At a media briefing at the Golden Tulip Hotel in Accra last week to announce the airline’s newly-introduced four weekly direct flights from Accra to Washington in the United States, the SAA Ghana Country Manager, Mrs Gloria Mensah, said her outfit had not abandoned its special packages for students and young people.
“We have pricing structures that target specific market segments and the students/young people fare is usually one of those,” the Country Manager said.
The SAA Accra-Washington flights start from August 2 and a promotional fare is in place till the end of October.
According to SAA’s Executive Manager in charge of Africa Hub Projects, Mr Kendy Phohleli, they have also entered into a bilateral codeshare agreement with Africa World Airlines (AWA) in Ghana.
The partnership will offer SAA customers from Washington and Johannesburg who want to explore more of Ghana, easy connectivity through Accra to other destinations such as Kumasi, Takoradi and Tamale as well as to Lagos, Nigeria.
SAA’s Acting Chief Executive, Mr Nico Bezuidenhout, recently said that tourism has always been and remains an important catalyst for growth and that was why SAA liked to create enjoyable travel experiences for passengers, whether they were high flyers or young explorers.
