Salsa final at Indece Square

When the huge floodlights go up at the Independence Square for the final of the Close-Up Freshness Dance Revolution competition tomorrow Friday,  the interest of many patrons will be to find out which city – Kumasi, Accra or Takoradi – will carry the day.

In the maiden edition of Salsa Fiesta in 2012, Kumasi dancers won the competition and last year, it was the turn of Accra to win.

This year, many eyes are on Takoradi to carry the day. But will they? Whichever group emerges as the overall winner will take home the GHC 30,000 prize at stake.

The preparations have been generally interesting, according to the organisers, Unilever. Dancers in Takoradi had their first taste of the pudding when the Close Up salsa team landed with all readiness to teach fusion dances to interested groups and individuals. Many trooped in to join and learn various new additions to the Salsa dance.

The group selection in Kumasi was a night to remember as Ghana’s foremost rapper, Sarkodie, rocked the stage and got everyone pumped up performing hits after hits of his limitless array of danceable tunes before the salsa session took place.

Accra was last to take its turn of dance lessons when many salsa lovers joined to earn a selection to represent the region.  .

Now, the various groups are expected to be creative and highly imaginative with the salsa dance fusions as the panel of judges   look out for showmanship, harmony and creativity among others.

Scheduled for the night of the salsa fusion battle between the cities is Sarkodie and Edem, who, though musicians, have also promised to make a dance statement on the night of the event which kicks off at 8pm. Admission is free.
