Sarkodie’s verse on ‘Jennifer Lomotey’ got us in trouble, we met with Krobo elders to resolve it, Kurl Songx reveals

In a recent interview on Onua FM's Adwuma Adwuma, Ghanaian artist Kurl Songx addressed the backlash that followed Sarkodie's feature on his 2017 song "Jennifer Lomotey".

According to Kurl Songx, certain Krobo chiefs and elders took offense to Sarkodie's lyrics, which referenced a local folklore about the alleged promiscuity of young women from Krobo.

“Krobonii baa papa a ahweneɛ da ne sisi, Komfo Anokye de adwaman abɔ no dua”, to wit “A beautiful Krobo lady with beads on her waist, she has been cursed with promiscuity by Komfo Anokye,” had rapped on the verse.

The rapper's words sparked outrage among some members of the Krobo community, leading to a heated debate at the time.

Kurl Songx disclosed that the controversy compelled them to meet with some elders from Krobo at a hotel in East Legon to resolve the matter amicably.

“I got to understand that it’s part of the work. We met them and solved it amicably. Together with Sarkodie’s late lawyer, my manager and we talked about it. We met I think in East Legon and we explained to them that this is not personal, its art,” he said.

He expressed gratitude to the elders for their swift understanding, explaining that it could have been worse without them accepting their explanations.

“Thanks to them, somebody else would not have understood because it was very sensitive. Sarkodie’s word were out of arts not to just tarnish someone’s image,” he added.
