SSUE gives thumbs up to GACA

NEARLY a year after picking up the Discovery of the Year trophy at the maiden edition of the Ghana Arts & Culture Awards (GACA), singer SSUE says she is excited the scheme is back this year to once again honour individuals and brands that have made major contributions to the arts and culture industry.

GACA2020 was launched on September 11 at the Accra Tourist Information Centre and it was a lively affair with creative folks from various arms of the arts in attendance.

“The organisers, the Arts and Culture Company, promised at the awards ceremony last December that they were here for the long haul. I’m glad to see them emerge with another edition. I have consistently said the arts is the soul of any nation. So whoever works to uplift it in any way deserves commendation,” said SSUE.

Awards are up for grabs in about 20 categories including Outstanding Cultural Personality of the Year, Ghanaian Movie of the Year, Cultural Television Programme of the Year, Ghanaian Fashion Designer of the Year, Outstanding Cultural Personality of the Year and Spoken Word Artist of the Year.

SSUE has been nominated in the Ghanaian Artiste of the Year category alongside Wiyaala, Worlasi, Sherifa Gunu, Lamisi and Trigmatic.

“Getting nominated in itself is an honour,” SSUE stated at the launch. “All those nominated in the category are wonderful personalities working hard to uphold their acts while pushing Ghana as high as they can. Ghana is our cherished homeland and I trust whoever wins would continue to keep busy in the interest of our nation.”

This year has so far been a fairly busy one for SSUE. Among the projects she has tackled include opening for Steel Pulse in Accra; an eight-week collaboration with other musicians from across the globe in a digital festival to create awareness on how to curb the spread of COVID-19; donating to aged and ailing Ghanaian musicians to help them cope with COVID-19 and release as well as the promotion of her  Bome Nkomode single featuring Pat Thomas.

Guests at the GACA2020 launch included Dr Ziblim Iddi Barri, Deputy Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture who urged all Ghanaians to constantly support the growth of our arts.   

Voting for nominees in GACA2020’s various categories ends on November 11. The awards ceremony is slated for Saturday, November 14.
