Think hair, think Hair Senta
What started on a rather small scale at Abedi Pele, East Legon some five years ago has blossomed into a big hair centre known as The Hair Senta located on the Jungle Avenue at East Legon on the A&C Mall road.
The brainchild and Chief Executive Officer of The Hair Senta is Mrs Gwyneth Gyimah Addo. After chatting with her last Tuesday at her premises, one could not help but admire her for her know-how for the business she is doing and how passionate she is about it.
Looking all beautiful in her black dress and matching black shoes with make-up that has been rightly apllied on her pretty face, Gwyneth took us down memory lane on how she started.
“I used to work with Standard Chartered Bank, I did that for seven years and resigned in 2012 but before that I had started The Hair Senta on a very small scale by selling in the bank and doing door to door sales,” she recalled in an interview with Showbiz.
The Hair Senta deals in 100% human hair extensions and what makes them different is that they provide features that is consistent with our natural hair, that is black African hair. Their other products are shea butter, growth booster and brushes.
“We created a brand when we started in 2012 and here we are today. We ship to Germany, Ukraine etc. We collect hair from all across the world. When you come to The Hair Senta, there is no human hair you cannot find. We have them all, just name it,” she said with a smile.
“In 2015, we introduced Hair Secrets and it was a huge success. It was a turning point for us, people aspired to have The Hair Senta products.”
One thing that makes them stand out is their excellent customer service and this is how Gwyneth put it, “The Hair Senta competes on exceptional customer service, we compete on customer service because we know women need extra care. We do deliveries too. We have branded bikes and as soon as a client calls, we deliver”, she added.
Talking about their prices, she said their hair extensions are very affordable, “we work with everyone’s budget, as low as GHc100 upwards, depending on the length that you want, everyone can get what they want. Initially our prices were very high and that strategy wasn’t competitive enough so we had to take another look at it.
“Come December, we will introduce prices as low as GHc50 with still very quality hair,” she assured. “We are also coming up with The Treatment Senta which will cater for everyone who has needs in terms of natural growth and breakage, the concept will be the first of its kind in Ghana,” she added.
The good thing about hair extensions that are bought at The Hair Senta is that they can be reused over and over again, “we give good value for your investment, you reuse it over and over again, our hair textures can last five to six years and more. We provide the after-care so the service extends beyond the purchase so we are able to get unsolicited feedback,” she said.
Interestingly, Gwyneth told this reporter that her brand was built on social media, “This brand is a success story, it was built on social media - Instagram. We have 80,000 active followers so you see, social media works.”
According to Gwyneth, her outfit organises annual sales that bring in about 600 people, “ we are projecting to get 800 people this year, each person buys about six different textures so you can imagine,” she said.
Throwing more light on her business, Gwyneth said “the foundation of this business was built around people who are extremely supportive, my husband Charles Addo, my brothers Gyo and OGee both of Phamous Philms and Nadia Gyimah the Creative Director,” she said.
Gwyneth also gave credit to her late father Charles Allen Gyimah of Video City fame, “ he is the reason we are who we are, he was very creative and a trailblazer and that is why we want to be different”, the Executive MBA holder added.
The Hair Senta has branches in Ahodwo, Kumasi, Koforidua and representatives in the UK, USA, Togo, Benin etc. and distributors within and outside Ghana. It opens from 8.30am to 7pm from Mondays to Fridays and 8.30am to 6pm on Saturdays.
