It is just about a fortnight to Valentine’s Day and lots of programmes are popping up to mark the event.

One of them that seeks to add to the rejuvenation of theatre in recent times is a play by writer and satirist Kobina Ansah titled This Family Is Not For Sale: Season 1. It will come off  on February 14 and  15 at the Efua Sutherland Drama Studio of the University of Ghana, Legon.

According to the writer, the work, unlike most plays, is a serial and the upcoming one is the first in the package.

This Family Is Not For Sale: Season 1 tells the story of The Abbans, a family of eight, who all have  a kind of skeleton in their cupboards.

The “only master” of the family, Mr Abban, a retired footballer, needs to curb the tension in his home while his wife in her 60s, wants to keep up with trends and rebukes anyone who thinks she’s old.

Their children and grandson work themselves into situations that collectively make This Family Is Not For Sale: Season 1 an attractive play to see.

The 26-year-old Kobina Ansah, who has a degree in Biochemistry, has close to a decade’s writing experience.

“I love to inspire my world with my juju. My ink is my juju!,” he said

He is fairly known for his versatile style, especially his handling of humour.

“I don’t want to be ordinary. I always want to be noted not for the rules I obeyed, but the ones I broke! That’s particularly why I went in for this serial as opposed to the usual ‘one-time’ plays around,” he said.

This Family Is Not For Sale: Season 1 is produced by Kobina Ansah’s Scribe Productions company.
