Tourism Minister pledges to support completion of abandoned Kwadaso Creative Art school

The Minister of Tourism, Culture and Creative Arts, Abla Dzifa Gomashie, has given strong assurance that the long-abandoned Kwadaso Creative Art School project will soon be completed.

This follows her inspection of the project in the Ashanti Region as part of a two-day working visit.

In a news report by 3news.com, it mentioned that the Minister disclosed plans to engage the relevant funding agencies, particularly GETFund, to release the needed resources for the completion of the facility.

She explained that a detailed report on the current state of the project will be submitted to the President to fast-track the process.

Construction of the first Creative Arts Senior High School began in December 2019 under former President Akufo-Addo. The project, financed by the GETFund and supported by educational non-profit organizations, currently stands at 50% completion.

However, work has stalled after the contractor abandoned the site due to funding challenges.

“We will engage the GETFund Administrator and all stakeholders to ensure the funds are released so this state-of-the-art Creative Arts School is completed for the benefit of our young talents and the creative industry at large,” the Minister noted.

The establishment of the school is expected to boost Ghana’s creative arts industry, which contributes millions of cedis annually to the national economy. It will also provide a dedicated space for young, talented students to develop their skills.

During the Minister’s visit, the project consultant appealed to the government for urgent financial support to prevent further deterioration of the structures.

“The project is currently at 50 percent completion. Work has stalled mainly because of a lack of funds. We are appealing for support so the contractor can return to the site.”
