Trolling about my style no bother – Koo Fori

ONE of the distinctive things about media personality Koo Fori is his sense of dress. He can wear really bold colours and sports a unique hairstyle which has earned him trolling over the years.

Though it can be expected that he would be upset, Koo Fori said the trolling doesn’t bother him at all.

“No, I have never felt bad. In fact, one of the pictures people made fun of pushed me to number three on Google and I told myself that you need to be somebody for people to talk about you. I always say that it is those who don’t have it who always complain about what others do,” he stated.

Asked what inspires his fashion sense, Koo Fori said, “I am a unique person and I do things in a unique way, I hate things that are common and I don’t patronise things that everybody patronises.

“When I was young, my mother sold secondhand clothes and my Dad was a Reverend Minister. I had access to a lot of clothes and I enjoyed what I was wearing so I can say I grew with it.

“Now that I am even older, I still have a passion for dressing, sometimes when I wake up, it takes me almost an hour to even decide what to wear and I make sure what goes out there is unique. I always want to stand out especially when I am in public.

“Sometimes people say that I love colours but what I normally do is when someone engages me to MC an event, I ask for the dress code and try to dress to suit the occasion but in Ghana people will talk about whatever you do,” he said.

Away from his fashion sense, Koo Fori, who is also an actor, shared his thoughts on the local movie industry.

“When you go to other countries like America or our neighbour Nigeria, their governments put a lot into show business so their main source of income is from the showbiz industry but the same cannot be said of Ghana.

“Here, everything depends on personal effort. If you become popular, you need to push yourself up other than that you will fade out within a twinkle of an eye,” he said.

He urged people interested in the entertainment industry to tune out detractors.

“Immediately you become popular, you become the eye of the public and people will talk about anything you say but it shouldn’t deter you. Whether you’re single or married, they will talk about you, just close your ears.

“When I lost my wife, it was all over the place that I had used her for juju (black magic). Maintain your name and your dignity and you will be on the lips of people for a very long time and you will also succeed,” he concluded.

Koo Fori is currently the Managing Director of digital channel Bryt TV and he says his station is doing very well.

“We are doing very very well, I need to be proud of myself. We are toeing the line of 4Syte TV by doing 90 per cent entertainment. We are nationwide and I can confidently say that we are doing very well,” he said.

He also has three pubs he is currently running at different locations in the capital.
