Vlisco shines light on three designers
The main issue for the night would be whether Ayesha Bedwei, Eugenia Tachie-Menson or Anita Erskine-Amaizo becomes the next Vlisco brand ambassador but when the three young women are introduced to guests at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra tomorrow, April 5, eyes would be intently fixed also on what they are wearing.

That’s because three gifted fashion designers have been selected by Vlisco to make clothes for the three women and everyone would be looking out for how sharp they make Ayesha, Eugenia and Anita look.
The designers are Shaft, Sheela Gabrah and Poqua Poku. They have all been busy working out what would perfectly fit whichever contestant is assigned to them and fashion watchers cannot wait to see how their final products would look like.
With his often uniquely-styled hair, Shaft always manages to stand out in any crowd. He has since the mid-1990s, been working to change the face of wearing our ever-popular Kente.
He has been credited with re-arranging the Kente, often blending it with raw silk to give it a much more international appeal.
Recently, Shaft has taken his passion for design to another level by collaborating with Vlisco Ghana to create exciting pieces with java and the new Hero collection.
Shaft is said to have a tall and exclusive client list and sleek cuts and many would get the chance to assess what makes him a hit with his clients tomorrow at the Labadi Beach Hotel
With a background in architecture and no formal training whatsoever in fashion design, Sheela Gabrah took seriously to her passion in 2011. She is the creative director of SHE By Bena, a brand that prides itself in making attractive clothes for women.
Relying on a distinctive approach to colours and fabrics, Sheela has dressed Ghanaian celebrities such as Joselyn Dumas, Sandra Ankobiah, Jackie Appiah, Becca and Efya and and Pokello of Big Brother Africa fame.
She showcased her first collection at the Glitz Africa Fashion show last November and won an award for the emerging designer of the year.
Poqua Poku has carved a niche for herself with her simple tailoring with a feminine edge and positive attitude to wearable designs.
Though her pieces always attempt to capture an African feel, her broad horizon always allows her to fiddle with ideas from everywhere.
The output from the three designers would definitely add to how well patrons enjoy Vlisco’s quest to find a new brand ambassador from 7.00pm at the Labadi Beach Hotel tomorrow.
