Writers Project of Ghana hosts Ivor

The Writers Project of Ghana and the Goethe Institute will host Ghanaian writer, Ivor Agyeman- Duah, at its special literary readings and conversations on June 25 in Accra.

He follows other distinguished African writers including the playwright and poet, Ama Ata Aidoo, Kojo Laing, Taiye Selasi, Sefi Atta and Chuma Nwokolo. 

The programme precedes the launch of Agyeman-Duah’s significant literary work- Crucible of the Ages- Essays in Honour of Wole Soyinka at 80 co-edited with author Ogochukwu Promise. It will be launched by the President of Rwanda, Paul Kagame. 

In the same week, there will be a theatrical production of the two classic Soyinka works: Ake: The Years of Childhood co-produced by Prof. Esi Sutherland-Addy and Agyeman-Duah and directed by Elizabeth Efua Sutherland and Emelia Asiedu, and The Childe Internationale directed by Dr Grace Uche Adinku at the Efua Sutherland Drama Studio, University of Ghana on July 6 and 7. 

An essayist, a literary historian who co-edited Bu Me Be: Proverbs of the Akans with writer, Peggy Appiah, and the philosopher, Kwame Anthony Appiah; author of Seychelles Islands, an ABC-CLIO, Inc. series on Cultures and Customs of Africa, Agyeman-Duah was chief advisor for Ford Foundation-funded production of Yaa Asantewaa Warrior Queen, in collaboration with the West Yorkshire Playhouse, Manchester Opera House, Edinburgh Festival Theatre, among others. 

As a film-maker, he was part of the BBC and PBS Into Africa and Wonders of the African World; wrote and presented the TV Series, Yaa Asantewaa, shot in Ghana and Seychelles which is used in postcolonial studies in universities. His biographical works include Between Faith and History: A Biography of J.A. Kufuor. 

Agyeman-Duah is also a trained economic historian who works in international development cooperation; editor and co-author of highly regarded trilogy: An Economic History of Ghana, Pilgrims of the Night: Development Challenges and Opportunities in Africa and Africa: A Miner’s Canary Into the C21st.
