Road accidents continue to claim the lives of Ghanaians.
A major cause is the nature of our roads. Most of the roads in this country are poorly constructed.
Often, contractors have to pre-finance the construction of projects, making them present shoddy jobs.
Mechanical faults of vehicles are another issue, as most of the imported cars are unsuitable for our roads.
Some drivers, too, either out of illiteracy or laziness, fail to thoroughly check vehicles before moving them.
Driving carelessly, with drivers not having the requisite experience for the license, wrongful overtaking on roads and highways, etc., etc., all contribute to road accidents.
Drunk driving is also a cause, including pressure from passengers on drivers to drive faster, which is part of the challenge.
The sustained education of drivers on checking their vehicles before moving them; the DVLA must engage in the training of drivers.
Careless driving must be prosecuted. I plead with passengers to desist from putting pressure on drivers to speed up.
