‘Ghanarians’ & Voltarians

Dear Editor, On Page 17 of the Wednesday November 6, 2024 issue of your esteemed paper was a news item headlined: "NDC does not deserve your votes... Ahiagbah tells Voltarians," filed in by Alberto Mario Noretti.

I took my time to read the story a couple of times to find out if there was a direct quote from Mr Ahiagbah referring to people from the Volta Region as Voltarians, but found none.

I do not pretend to know the reason for Volta Region being so named, but in my thinking, so long as the region is not spelt as "Voltar," those who hail from there cannot be Voltarians. At best, they can only be referred to as Voltaians.

If they can conveniently be called Voltarians, does it not also hold if citizens of Ghana are referred to as Ghanarians and not Ghanaians? I stand to be educated.
