Karpowership, Seatrium launch LNGTS Americas to improve power generation efforts

Leading power producer, Karpowership, in partnership with Seatrium, has commissioned a new LNG Terminal Ship (LNGTS), the Karadeniz LNGTS Americas.

The Karadeniz LNGTS Americas, the fifth of the power producer's fleet, is part of the company's plan to strengthen the strategic next-generation powership.

Karadeniz LNGTS Americas will join the growing fleet of vessels operated by Karpowership, the world’s largest owner and operator of the floating power plant technology known as Powerships.

LNGTS units can be paired with Powerships (LNG-to-Power), which are multi-fuel enabled, to deliver electricity in regions where onshore infrastructure is limited and access to natural gas is absent.

Speaking at the inauguration, the Chief Executive Officer of Karpowership, Orhan Remzi Karadeniz, explained that the model of integrating powerships and LNGTS provided an opportunity for cost-effective solutions for energy security.

“Thanks to our partners at Seatrium, whose innovation, expertise and commitment have been integral to our journey, we are delighted to add Karadeniz LNGTS Americas to our expanding fleet.

“Our model of integrating Powerships and LNGTS offers countries a unique and cost-effective solution to achieving energy security while utilising cleaner fuels.

"Our one-of-a-kind, industry-leading design and know-how are unique in the world, with no equal in their field. We are very proud to have become a significant player in the LNG field in just six years,” Mr Karadeniz stated.

Improving capacity

The Karpower CEO said currently, the company owned 50 Powerships with an installed capacity of 10,000 MW and 11 LNGTS units, including those under construction or in the pipeline.

Having a global footprint across 20 countries, Karpowership is delivering cleaner, reliable and cost-effective electricity on four continents, including LNG-to-power projects in Brazil and Senegal; the latter being the first of its kind on the African continent.

He also stated that Karpowership represented one per cent of global installed Gas-to-Power capacity and aimed to double that to two per cent in the next 10 years.

"As part of this plan, we have signed a Letter of Intent (LoI) with Seatrium to expand our floating power capabilities.

"Having signed the LoI, Seatrium will begin converting three high-capacity LNGTS and Karpowership’s next generation of Powerships, which are designed with a modular system adaptable to project needs.

"The new design will allow for the integration of advanced technologies such as CCUS (Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage) systems or turbines when required," Mr Karadeniz  explained.

Innovative tranfsformation

The Executive Oficer, Seatrium,  Chris Ong, said the collaboration between the two organisations underscored his company’s role in transforming the energy industry through innovation and strategic partnerships in energy assets.

"By uniting our world-class offshore engineering expertise with Karpowership’s pioneering energy solutions, we are advancing the development and deployment of rapid, reliable and flexible power solutions to meet growing global energy demands," he said.b
