Take action now, AMA

Every part of Accra, particularly areas around  traffic lights, is slowly but gradually turning into a mini-market.

This is because  city authorities who are expected to stop the people who hawk around these areas fail to do so in the early stages.

A similar situation has started, just around the traffic light at Abossey Okai, where an onion seller who used to stand at the lights with some onions has now settled down with sacks of the onions. He bags them under the lights and moves towards the traffic to sell to interested motorists.

As of last Friday, December 27, another onion seller had joined (see picture) .

I believe that the only way to stop the situation from getting out of hand is for the Accra Metropolitan Authority (AMA) to be proactive by ensuring that such activities are stopped right at the beginning,  instead of waiting for the number of traffic sellers  to grow before action is taken.

When it started in a similar fashion around the Beyeeman area, the city authorities looked on, and today, the area has become almost a market and a slum where all manner of criminals find it conducive to hide.

I hope with this prompting, the AMA will live up to expectation by stopping this practice right at this stage rather than waiting for the situation to get out of hand.
