The dilemma of Senior High School

The educational system in Ghana has under gone several changes since colonial era. These changes were made to enhance quality teaching, and learning in order to better standards of education in the country in order to keep abreast of changes.

However, the landmark change began in the 1987/88 academic year when the Ghana Education Service (GES) officially introduced the three- year junior secondary school programme as a step to overhaul the whole educational system in the country.

That was in line with a new educational policy that basic education would be nine years as secondary education would be reduced from seven years to three years.

 Criticisms

That evolution in the educational system at first received a lot of criticisms from some educational experts who believed the new system would affect the standard of education in the country and, therefore, should not be implemented.
