Paper over dastardly acts
One dysfunctional legacy, a sickening canker, which has undermined our claim to democracy and the respect for the rule of law, is the tolerance for criminal conduct in the name of partisan causes. From the days of Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah when there were the action troopers and matemeho, we seem to always condone deviant and criminal behaviour for as long as it has some beneficial consequences, no matter how limited, for a partisan cause.
There is also the other canker where some unscrupulous individuals misuse public funds and when these are pointed out, those who make the exposure are disowned, partly because the act of whistleblowing is marred by indecorous language, or that such exposures could cost a political party votes if the matter is thoroughly investigated for the necessary and appropriate action to be taken.
