The rule of law should always prevail
We are all in danger of the loss of our freedom if those in charge of security act arbitrarily outside the law. What compromises national security should be clearly defined in terms of public order law and should not reside in the heads of chief security officials. Their brains may be compromised by the invasion of what da Rocha described as cobwebs, as mine is now often embarrassed by amnesia.
Our lawyers should not only fight for our rights in the courts. They should demand that the authorities and institutions act within the law. I was surprised to see billboards on our streets advertising or campaigning for the forthcoming elections in Nigeria. I found it odd. But should they be arbitrarily pulled down on the vague premises of compromising national security? I believe these billboards were erected on authority.
