• Civil Society groups raise concerns over vote buying allegations ahead of Election 2024

    Three key civil society organisations in in Ghana have raised concerns over alleged vote buying ahead of Election 2024.

    According to them, both the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) and the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) have been accused of engaging in vote buying.

    They have therefore cautioned that such actions could undermine the credibility of the upcoming general elections.

    Tullow Oil has provided an update in its Trading Report released on November 29, 2024, revealing that the International Arbitration Court in London is preparing to deliver its decision on the tax dispute with the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA).

    The case centers around a $400 million tax assessment, and a verdict is expected by the close of the year after both parties presented their arguments.

    In the report, Tullow Oil confirmed that a hearing took place in October 2023, with the court's decision anticipated before the year's end.

  • 2024 elections:  EC burns defective ballot papers for Eastern region

    The Ghana Police Service, in partnership with the Eastern Regional Elections Security Taskforce, has supervised the destruction of defective ballot papers that had been recalled by the Electoral Commission (EC). 

    The operation which took place on  Tuesday, December 3, aimed to address issues arising from the mishandling of ballots, prompting a suspension of the Special Voting exercise in the Eastern and Western regions.

    The destruction process was conducted under strict supervision, with constituency election directors from all political parties present. These representatives, from parties such as the New Patriotic Party (NPP), National Democratic Congress (NDC), and Convention People's Party (CPP), monitored the proceedings from their respective armories to ensure transparency.

    Nigeria's anti-graft agency has said it has made its biggest ever seizure of assets, alleged to have been purchased with the proceeds of corruption.

    The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) announced that it has taken possession of a large housing estate comprising of more than 750 properties in the capital, Abuja.

    The Ghana Police Service has launched an investigation into an alleged attack on the convoy of the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

    The incident is reported to have occurred on December 2 in Techiman, located in the Bono East Region.

    The Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon, Lydia Seyram Alhassan has denied distributing food and water to voters during the special voting exercise on December 2, 2024.

    According to her, the incident has been misunderstood.

    She explained that the food packages seen in a video being shared to some voters in a queue was meant for her campaign team, Electoral Commission agents, and journalists present at the polling station.
