Medical Students Cut A Baby’s Penis Instead Of Umbilical Cord

Amateurish medical students cut off a baby’s penis partly, confusing it with the umbilical cord.

Doctors then tried to quickly and secretly cover up the situation, rushing the baby boy into surgery to fix the mistake.

The infant’s father Diego Rangel Izaguirre however, became suspicious when it was more than two hours since the baby was born, yet he wasn’t being allowed to see the baby, as staff at the hospital in Saltillo, Mexico told him that the newborn had had a “minor accident”.

On further pressing the involved personnel, he was told what had happened, Yahoo News reported.

As if the terrible blunder wasn’t bad enough, the surgeon trying to save the baby from the medical student’s oversight made two more cuts on the poor baby’s delicate penis, almost two centimetres deep.

“When my child was born and they cut his umbilical cord, they injured his penis. And unfortunately, when the surgeon started sewing it, he made two other new injuries, almost two centimetres deep,” the baby’s father Diego lamented.
The mother, Zulem Contreras, was disgruntled that the hospital allowed students rather than professionals to handle her new bundle of joy, and the family has now made an official complaint to the hospital.

Officials at the hospital maintain that the operation was not only approved by the parents, but it was minor and that the baby is in stable condition.

“The Regional Delegation rejects the versions spread by media according to which the genitals of a newborn “were cut” in the General Hospital no. 1. During the cut of the umbilical cord, the skin of the prepuce (foreskin) was accidentally injured and repaired through the usual circumcision process that was consented by the parents,” said a spokesman from the hospital.
The spokesman added that the hospital has launched an internal investigation.
