Over 50 killed, 95 injured in Maiduguri blasts

At least 50 people were reportedly killed with 95 critically sustained injuries as a result of multiple explosions that rocked Ajilari Railway Cross and Bintu Sugar suburbs of Maiduguri, the Borno state capital.

Sources from National and International Humanitarian agencies that participated in the evacuation of the victims told Vanguard Nigeria's correspondent.

Other hospital sources put the death toll at over 60 as many of the injured victims died while receiving treatment Monday morning.

Ajilari Cross and Bintu Sugar are located at the outskirt of Maiduguri which have witnessed a series of boko haram attacks including bombings of a football veiwing centre in recent past.

 

The explosions which were suspected to have been masterminded by suicide bombers occurred simultaneously at about 7:38pm, while the last four took place at about 8pm which has forced many residents to flee into main city for safety.

A lucky survivor based in Alilari who also work with one of the nation’s humanitarian agencies told the Correspondent on phone that the first incident occurred at a popular telecommunications service point where many people gather to buy/sell GSM recharge cards and other petty businesses.

Already, the Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman in an interview with Journalists confirmed the multiple blasts but insisted that the number of casualties is yet to be ascertained.

He however cautioned residents of Maiduguri and its environs to be vigilante and report any suspicious movement to security agencies.
