Kotobabi ‘5’ Primary School team leaves for Brazil June 19

The football team of the Kotobabi ‘5’ Primary School which won the Omo Fantastic Soccer Five Competition would leave for Brazil on June 19 to watch the World Cup tournament.

The Headteacher of the school, Ms Bertha Atukumah, who confirmed this to the Junior Graphic, said the players and the school’s sports secretary were ready for the trip.

She said the team comprised Enoch Otoo, who was voted the Best Player, Pius Saletsi, Ababu Alhassan, Bright Owusu, Benjamin Atiku, Yahaya Abdella, Richard Sapak, Joel Appiah, Titiati Richmond, Sylvester Afedeke and Ms Diana Selassie Diaba, the Sports Secretary.

She added that apart from watching the World Cup, the players would also go on sightseeing.

“Our passports have been given to us and I can tell you that the team is ready for the Brazil trip,” Ms Atukumah said, adding that Unilever Ghana Limited, sponsors of the trip, had also done well in fulfilling its promise of sending the team to Brazil.

According to her, the players would be in Brazil for four days, after which they will return to Ghana.

Ms Diaba, on her part, noted that the players were going to Brazil with high expectations, stressing that they were very proud of their achievement and could not wait for their departure to Brazil.

The Kotobabi ‘5’ Primary School won the maiden edition of the Omo Fantastic Five Soccer Challenge organised by Unilever Ghana Limited at the Accra Sports Stadium in February this year.

Eight schools - Tema Regular Baptist School, Kotobabi ‘5’ Primary School, British International School, Jack and Jill School, Salem Educational Complex, St Lisberth International School, Queen of Peace Academy and the St Peter’s School - made it to the grand finale of the contest. They were selected from Tema, Kumasi, Takoradi and Accra.

The Kotobabi ‘5’ Primary School team defeated St Lisberth International School 2-1 in the final contest to lift the trophy.
